What If August Was the Month You Didn’t Power Through?

ree

There’s something about August when everything slows down just enough for us to notice what’s not working.

We start noticing the stuff that feels… loud. The clutter that didn’t bother us before. The routines that suddenly feel clunky. The spaces that no longer match the life we’re living.

And perhaps it's the dust settling after the summer, or back to school prep or the thought of changing seasons and fall around the corner....But there's definitely a shift for a lot of us where we start noticing the stuff that feel loud lately.

So what if we took August as a time to pause and realign? To look around our space and gently ask: "What’s actually supporting me here and what’s slowly draining me?” What would happen if our home felt like it was on our team? If our routines felt like rhythm instead of resistance?

This Is the Work I Do

This is exactly what I help my clients with virtually and in person. Not just cleaning up a room. But helping them create a life and environment that feels aligned with who they are right now (and who they’re becoming).

  • Outgrown your clothes or your style? Let’s declutter and keep the things you’re proud to wear now.

  • Too many food storage containers crowding your cabinets? Let’s donate the ones you never reach for and keep the ones that actually work for you.

When you think of alignment, you probably don’t think of these things.

But that’s exactly where I want us to go this August. Let’s put the things that support your peace, your energy, and your everyday life at the forefront, because those are the things that carry you forward.

When It Feels Like Life Is Happening At You

Do you ever feel like you’ve hit a wall where life is happening at you instead of for you?

It’s usually in those moments when you look around and realize your routines, your space, and your mind aren’t exactly syncing up the way you hoped they would back in January. And if you’re anything like most of the women I work with, the clutter around you often mirrors the clutter within you. Yikes...I know.

But sit with that feeling for a second… and then let’s talk about it.

Because here’s the truth:

  • When your home feels out of control…

  • When your routines are inconsistent (or nonexistent)…

  • When your brain is juggling a million things and still forgets the one that mattered…

That’s not a character flaw. It's a signal. It’s a sign that something in your environment or your systems is no longer working for the version of you that’s trying to emerge. And no, it usually doesn’t get solved with another planner, a fancy basket, or a late night Amazon organizing binge (yes, I know those are tempting).

Why August Is Actually the Perfect Time

Here’s something most people don’t realize: fall cleaning is a real thing.

We always hear about spring cleaning, but there’s a huge uptick in people wanting to reset their homes right before fall. Search trends and organizing reports show that August and early September are some of the busiest times of year for decluttering, organizing, and routine overhauls. (Remember how earlier we talked about new school year energy, fall season approaching, and that internal craving for structure?)

So if you're feeling the pull to make a shift, you’re not alone. And you’re not imagining it. This is the season when it starts to bubble up for a reason. That’s why my September schedule is already filling up fast. There’s something about this season that brings people back to themselves… and back to their space.

Not Sure Where to Start? Try This First:

If things feel misaligned but you’re not sure what to do yet, here are 3 simple ways to reconnect with your space and yourself this month:

  1. Walk your home like it’s someone else’s. Pretend you’re a guest. What feels inviting? What feels overwhelming? This trick gives you fresh perspective without judgment.

  2. Ask yourself: “Does this support the season I’m in?” Not just weather wise (hello Florida) but life-wise. Maybe the shoes by the door belong to a version of you that’s always on the go. Maybe you’re craving more stillness now. Let your space reflect that.

  3. Choose one thing to let go of every day for a week. Not because you “should,” but because every release creates a tiny moment of relief. You don’t need a full weekend. Just one decision a day builds momentum.

These little shifts may not seem like much at first, but they open the door to something deeper.

If You’re Craving More of that Shift

I’ve created a few different ways to help you reset depending on where you are right now:

Wherever you are, I’ve got you. And when you’re ready, you’ll know.
